As our world becomes more congested with people, cars, buildings and roads, it is a welcome relief to know there are places that won't be paved.

San Elijo Lagoon is one such place you may pass every day. It's that low-lying wetland you drive across between Encinitas and Solana Beach. It is also an ecological reserve of close to a thousand acres and home to hundreds of native plants and animals with over 7 miles of hiking trails. If you haven't stopped for a visit, you may be surprised by the diversity of habitats and wildlife you find along the trails.

We are fortunate to have this special place in our community and it is thanks to many concerned and involved citizens that ensure its survival today.

You can make a difference by joining San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy. You'll receive our quarterly newsletter "Lagoon Tidings", keeping you informed about the health of the lagoon and ongoing projects. Your membership dues go directly to programs benefiting the reserve including:

- Monitoring biological parameters as well as developments in the watershed,
- Carrying out the action plan for the lagoon including keeping the inlet open
- Expanding and protecting the borders through land acquisition
- Supporting an active educational outreach program that provides free guided walks
- Removing invasive plants that threaten native species

Membership dues begin at $25 for students, $30 for individuals, and $50 for families. Members receive our quarterly newsletter, "Lagoon Tidings", and invitations to special events. Print out an application and mail it with your check or credit card number to:
